Decorate your roof for the holidays using these safety tips

Holiday Decor Trends and Roof Safety Tips

The holidays are coming FAST – and many people use the weekend just after Thanksgiving to start putting up their  Christmas decor. In this post, we’re going to provide you not only with some roof decorating safety tips, but also recommend some new holiday decor trends that seem to be popping in 2024. Now that you’ve finished feasting for Thanksgiving, let’s review some important holiday roof safety tips.

Ladder & Roof Safety

With the weather forecast predicting rain this week, please make sure you don’t attempt to use a ladder and try to climb your roof during wet conditions. Always make sure someone is outside with you to  hold the ladder and be present in case of any accidents, and remember to wear shoes or boots with a great grip on the bottom soles.

Clip Those Lights

Never use nails or staples on your roof. There are many various holiday light clips that attach to gutters and other areas of your home that won’t compromise your roof or gutters.

Keep Those Figurines on the Ground

Cold temps, rain, wind and possibly ice/snow will already put your roof to work this winter. The last thing you want to do is further stress your shingles by placing added weight on your roof

What to Know about Inflatables

Many times, the inflatable holiday decor is lightweight enough to go on your roof. However, please keep all of these pointers in mind:

  • Many inflatables are held down with string, clips or cords. If you expect strong storms or high winds this winter, you should keep these decorations on the ground to avoid possible damages to your shingles.
  • Most inflatables come with wooden bases to help weigh them down; don’t place extra weighted objects (like sandbags) on top of the wood. This added weight could further stress your roof.
  • Stay away from steep slopes. If the slope on your roof is less than 45 degrees, you are flirting with danger while decorating and you will more than likely find those inflatables on the ground soon.

Now that we’ve covered some basics on holiday decorating safety, let’s look at some cool new decor trends for 2024!

From Skirts to Collars

Forget the traditional tree skirt – the new decor trend for 2024 is the versatile tree collar. With a more modern look for the base of your tree, you can choose from a multitude of options to fit your personal decor tastes: wooven basket, felt, cutout designs, printed designs, metal buckets and more. Check out this cool LED Gingerbread House Tree Collar on Amazon.

Get Bow-Tied

Bows have made a huge comeback in recent years and are now an essential part of all holiday decor. From replacing the star on treetops, to accenting stockings, mantles, outdoor decor and more. The best part of this trend is you can make them yourself, relatively cheap. Just head to your local craft store, pick a color/size you like, measure, cut and tie!

Save Money with Solar

Check out the Solar Powered Curtain Christmas Lights, and dress up your fence, deck, gazebo or roof edge and save money on your power bill at the same time. These waterproof solar lights feature three different time settings and up to 8 different light modes – and use no power (all solar). They just require 6-8 hours of sun on the charging base to get to 100%.
