The Carolina's Most Trusted Roofer Since 1950
As we say goodbye to summer vacations, unbearably hot temperatures and constant yardwork – it’s time to focus on another SC fall season! While we usually associate fall with cooler weather, college football and changing leaf colors, it’s also the best time of the year for roof repairs and replacement! Here’s why:
Roofing is best installed when the outside temperature is between 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit with sunny skies. Atlas roofing, the nationwide shingle manufacturer, claims moderate temperatures help facilitate better sealing of asphalt shingles, which in turn help them firmly adhere to your roof. Not to mention the cooler temps are much more tolerable for roofing crews, leading to an increase in productivity. Don’t wait too long though – when outside temperatures get colder than 45 degrees, it could lead to challenges with shingle flexibility and sealing.
Even though we are still in Hurricane season until November 30, those crazy “pop-up summer storms” should soon be a thing of the past. Those summer storms provide little warning and seem to come out of nowhere – disrupting any roof work that may be scheduled. The only good news about hurricane season – we have plenty of notice from the weather channel and phone apps to properly prepare and reschedule roof repairs or replacements, so they don’t happen in the middle of the job.
By having your roof repaired or replaced in autumn, you can enjoy the benefit of a better insulated home in the cold winter months. A new roof can absolutely help reduce your heating bills – and further protect your home against the possibility of harsh winter weather.
We are fully aware that snow/ice storms rarely happen in SC, but they do happen. Wikipedia states: “The Midlands is the least predictable area of the state in experiencing snowfall events. About 5 out of every 10 years, the region will have no snowfall at all; however in the 5 out of 10 years that the region receives snow, the accumulations are anywhere from under an inch to occasionally as much as 4 to 5 inches.” Five out of every 10 years averages out to about every other year, so make sure your home’s roof is prepared.
